Coaches,
I have decided to hold off in changing the tiebreaker system this year because it would not be fair to the teams that have Malcolm X on their schedule, just like it wouldn't be fair if those same teams only played 7 games and everyone else played 8 games. Plus I do not feel it is fair to change the rules in the middle of a season. This is my fault for discussing this during the season. We will discuss rules changes at the coaches meeting at the City Tournament. PLEASE NOTICE, I have added a new stat onto the standing page. This stat will not be used this year, but I would like to vote on this stat to be used next year for a tiebreakers. It is TRPI. The formula is as followed: (.25 * winning percentage) + (.5 * opponents winning percentage) + (.25 * opponents opponents winning percentage). This formula is very similar to the one used in college basketball's RPI, however I have not taken into account home and away, because I feel it does not mean nearly as much for chess. This stat takes into account schedule strength.

Coaches,
The tiebreakers have been updated on the rules pages as per what the coaches voted on at 2005 City Tournament. Remember, this year at the City Tournament Varsity Sections, the tournament directors will be enforcing the taking of notation during the game. The rules on taking notation are in the rules page of this website and have been updated today. If you have any questions on these matters or anything else just email me and I will be happy to explain them. Taking of notation during city was ratified during last year's City coaches meeting and notation is considered part of the game. If a player not taking notation is brought to the tournament director's attention the 1st time, the player will be instructed to take notation. If the player refuses and this is brought to the tournament's director a 2nd time, the player will be instructed to take notation. If the player refuses to take notation and this is brought to the tournament director's attention a 3rd time that player game will be forfeited. This is per the USCF rule book and this rules has been enforce in matches in the past and will be used this year at the City Tournament.

Thank you

I want to thank all coaches for getting their results to me so quickly after their matches have been completed. This year has been the best year so far in that aspect, and it makes my job easier when I do not have to bug coaches for results. Remember the City Tournament is on Thursday March 1st at Marquette's Student Union, same place as last year, upstairs. Details are below on this page and if there are any questions let me know. There will not be any updates to the site from Wednesday Jan 10th to Monday Jan 15th because I will be on a much needed vacation. However, please keep submitting results to the games; I will update the site on Jan 16th when I return.
Happy New Year to all

Coaches,
It has come to my attention that Malcolm X's coach is not longer at that school. Therefore unless I am informed otherwise all of Malcolm X's game will be counted as forfeits. It is too late to reform the divisions and rearrange the schedule. If there are any questions about this please email me.

Coaches,
The date for the City tournament will be Thursday, March 1st at Marquette University Student Union, just like the last few years. The event will last from 9a to 5p that day with the varsity teams playing 3 matches on that day. If you team is unable to attend, please let me know so we will not be waiting for your team to show.

Please note: I have had a bit of trouble with my emails and some of you may be getting multiple copies of my last email. I am working on the problem and hope to have it fixed by the end of the week; my email still works though, so I can still receive emails.

The Schedule has been posted!!!
If there are any problems with the dates let me know. There are 19 teams this year, therefore there are 4 divisions with 4 divisional winners and 4 wild cards (teams with the next best records) being eligible for Division 1 at the City Tournament.
Good Luck to all teams and if there are any questions or concerns, please email me.
